Mikaela Dorceus - Winter Park High School
Mikaela has experienced racism in many forms in her short lifetime. Promoting racial reconciliation by speaking out against ignorance and injustice is her response to achieve inclusion. She believes our society becomes united when all people are treated the same.
Her favorite Martin Luther King, Jr. quote inspires her to continue her efforts: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."
Volunteer service has provided exposure to politics, education and homelessness. Mikaela is dedicated to a project to collect personal hygiene products for shelters. She has accumulated 40 hours of community service in school and the community. The value of giving to help others has been an important lesson.
Mikaela has served in leadership positions in Beta club, Thespians Honors and Park Pals.
