Lara Martinez - Horizon High School
Doing the right thing for selfless reasons is an important part of the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. that Lara adopts in her life. Lara works with children to create a community where all people are equal and work hand in hand together.
With over 140 community service hours, Lara is invested in a wide range of activities. She is a singer and has volunteered with the youth of Winter Garden in musical theater programs as well as serving as president of the school choir and theater. Lara’s dream is to use the gift of her voice to reach diverse audiences about social issues so that all are heard and represented.
One MLK quote which really stands out for Lara is: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
Future Goals: Lara’s dream is to attain a BFA in musical theater and become a performer to spread awareness through art. Her school choices include Flagler College, UCF, University of South Florida and NYU.
