Abigail Barner - Edgewater High School

Abby is an enthusiastic dedicated advocate for equality and against ableism, especially for youth with special needs. She applauds the fact that her school supports the inclusion of students with a variety of needs in general education classes. Beyond the warm friendships gained through volunteerism she appreciated the opportunity to serve with Young Life’s Capernaum program as a summer camp counselor for special needs youth. Being a volunteer has taught Abby that she has much more to gain than give. Her leadership abilities have led her to be named as a Group Leader for Capernaum where she assists in facilitating planning and facilitating events.

Favorite MLK quote is: “The time is always right to do the right thing.”

Future Plans: After attending FSU, defending human rights by serving in U. S. Embassies throughout the world is Abby’s goal.
