Third Place: Courage by Avery Brooks
As winter creeps in, snow hits the ground
It makes a fluffy bed, and plenty of fun to go around.
A unique snowflake drifts to the earth, quickly
standing tall with boundless courage
With nothing to say, and no mouth to speak, it sends a
clear message:
I am me, no one else can be, and I do it perfectly.
I am myself, I am no one else, I\'m being me.
It's part of a snowman, part of an angel
Part of a snowball fight, with great delight.
Susan’s Thoughts
It’s lovely to see a poem about the desire to be one’s authentic self from a very articulate 8-year-old. This poem has a message for all ages.
