Lisa Brown
Good Things Do Happen During COVID-19
We all need someone like Lisa Brown in our neighborhood. Someone who is passionate and proactive about the environment. “It was during COVID-19 and I was tired of staying in the house. I wanted to get out and do something productive. I started picking up trash at the front entrance of our neighborhood and when I saw that I could fill a garbage bag full of trash in one hour by myself, I realized this is a real opportunity to make a huge impact in our neighborhood. I used Nextdoor to tell people what I was doing and to invite them to join me. I got several waves of volunteers but have a steady group of four volunteers that join me once a month,” said Lisa.
Lisa Brown is the Vice Chair for the Foundation for Florida Environmental Protection and a retired law enforcement officer of twenty-five years, so, she’s no stranger to giving back. It’s not the most glamorous job, but when you’re passionate about preserving the environment it becomes second nature. Lisa partnered with Keep Orlando Beautiful who donated necessary trash pickers and garage bags, so all volunteers have do is show up. The group has now adopted two roads in the greater Orlando area to maintain in addition to continuing cleaning their neighborhood. Lisa encourages volunteers that it only takes one person to sacrifice one hour of their time to collect one bag of trash. With all hands-on deck over 100 pounds of trash can be collected in a week. If you’re interested in joining the group, contact Lisa at MBAredcenteral1@gmail.com.
Lisa thank you for being a great advocate for your neighborhood and the environment. Orlando is a better place because of your sacrifice and contribution.
