WHAT:
The City of Orlando is seeking local artists to showcase their artwork during Hispanic Heritage Month in the Terrace Gallery at Orlando City Hall. Arts are an intrinsic part of Hispanic heritage, which is why the city annually hosts an art exhibit in conjunction with this important month to further illustrate the richness of Latin American history culture.
This year’s theme aims to feature domino-inspired art pieces that showcase the sport, which has historically been an important part of Latin American culture and is often associated with shared traditions and values such as family, community and friendship.
WHEN:
- Submissions are due by August 25, 2023, 11:59 p.m.
- The 2023 visual arts exhibit will run from September 8, 2023 to November 13, 2023.
HOW TO SUBMIT:
Interested artists can submit the following to the City of Orlando Public Art Coordinator Patrick Greene atpatrick.greene@orlando.gov:
- Artist's full name and desired name to be used in the artwork labels
- Artist biography or resume.
- Photos of a minimum of five pieces of artwork in JPG format related to the sport of dominoes.
- Descriptions about each artwork.
- Each submission must be labeled with:
- Name of artist
- Art title
- Year created
- Measurements
- Medium
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Appropriateness: Artists are selected based on the appropriateness of their proposal to the project.
- Communication: The artist must have the ability to clearly communicate concepts both visually and through clearly written materials.
- All 2-D art submitted for selection must be ‘Wall Ready’, with D rings or wire.
- Performance: The artist must have a professional history of being able to work cooperatively and finish projects on time.
