City of Orlando’s Fair Housing Act 50th Anniversary

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 5 City Commissioner Regina I. Hill and District 6 City Commissioner Samuel B. Ings Host City of Orlando’s Fair Housing Act 50th Anniversary  

WHAT:

On Thursday, April 12, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 5 City Commissioner Regina I. Hill and District 6 City Commissioner Samuel B. Ings will join with the community to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act. The event will also recognize and observe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s contributions to the passage of the Fair Housing Act, in light of the 50th anniversary of his death.

At the event, the City of Orlando will launch a Civil Rights Award program to honor those in the Orlando community who have dedicated their lives to fight for civil rights and equality. As part of the ceremony, the first award winner will be announced and recognized for their significant contributions to the community, resulting in progress and equality for Orlando residents.

WHY:

This event is a part of the city’s ongoing efforts to establish partnerships, which support the development of programs and organizations that foster compassion in Orlando. In addition, this event reaffirms the city’s continued commitment to advancing fair housing and creating stable, inclusive neighborhoods that encourage the contributions of all citizens.
