Dr. Matthew Forsythe, Director of the Writing Competency-Rollins Colle
Matthew Forsythe is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Rollins College, where he has been teaching since 2011. His classes include creative writing workshops and courses on children’s literature, and he has received both the Cornell Distinguished Teaching Award and the Walter E. Barden Distinguished Teaching Award from the school.
Dr. Forsythe holds a PhD from the University of Georgia and an MA from the University of Tennessee. His publications include fiction in Yalobusha Review, creative nonfiction in Mid-American Review, and literary criticism in War + Ink: New Perspectives on Ernest Hemingway’s Early Life and Writings. In recent years, grants from the Collaborative Research Fellowship Program have supported his collaborative writing projects with Rollins undergraduates; their co-authored stories have appeared in Newfound, The Headlight Review, and Sky Island Literary Journal, and they have presented their work at conferences of the South Atlantic Modern Language Association, the College English Association, and the Florida Literary Arts Coalition.
At Rollins, Dr. Forsythe serves as the Faculty Director of the Academic Honor Council and the Director of the Writing Competency. In 2024, the graduating seniors selected him for the Hugh F. Mckean Award, which features the honor of addressing them at commencement.
