CITY OF ORLANDO - LAKE ALERT for Lake Druid

To address citizen concerns related to water quality, the City of Orlando's Streets and Stormwater Division has developed a Lake Alert public information system to provide seasonal and localized warnings for City of Orlando lakes.

An announcement has been provided below regarding the lake(s) where water quality has been a concern.

The City of Orlando is issuing a Lake Alert for Lake Druid due to a sanitary sewage overflow.

Location: Private apartment community near Warehouse Road

Cause: An estimated volume of 600 gallons of sanitary waste entered into the onsite stormwater system due to electrical and mechanical failures at a lift station owned and operated by a private apartment community.

Facility Response: A private contractor responded and resolved the lift station failure to stop the overflow. The private apartment community is responsible for cleaning and remediating all impacted areas.

City Response: City personnel will issue door hangers to lakefront homeowners and post warning signs at designated areas at Lake Druid Park. The City will begin collecting water samples on a routine basis to test the E. coli counts.

The City of Orlando advises that water contact activities, including irrigation, associated with Lake Druid cease until further notice.

Once E. coli counts meet acceptable State Water Quality Standards, we will remove the warning and share this update on our Lake Alert Hotline number (407.246.2220) and our Lake Alert website.

Please continue to check our website or call the Lake Alert Hotline for the most up-to-date information regarding your lake.
