Lift Station 2 Replacement Project
Last updated on June 09, 2026
The replacement of Lift Station 2 is designed to improve the reliability, capacity, and long-term performance of the wastewater collection system serving the surrounding area.
The City of Orlando is replacing Lift Station 2, one of the city's oldest wastewater facilities, which has been in service for more than 80 years. Due to its age, the station and associated infrastructure have exceeded their intended service life and require replacement to meet current reliability and operational standards.
The project will construct a new modern submersible pump lift station approximately 550 feet south of the existing facility beneath the Gateway Center parking garage. Work includes new gravity sewer pipelines, manholes, water system improvements, utility relocations, bypass pumping, electrical upgrades, traffic control, and connection to the existing force main. Once the new facility is fully operational, the existing lift station and related infrastructure will be removed.
Replacing this aging infrastructure will improve the reliability, capacity, and long-term performance of the wastewater collection system serving downtown Orlando. The project will help reduce the risk of sewer overflows, equipment failures, and emergency repairs while improving system safety, efficiency, and resiliency. It will also support future growth and development in the area.
To ensure uninterrupted wastewater service throughout construction, the city will use temporary facilities and phased construction methods. The new lift station and upgraded infrastructure will provide dependable service for residents, businesses, and visitors for decades to come.
We anticipate this project will take 24 months to complete. Adverse weather and unforeseen circumstances can create delays and increase the project's duration.
There will be no interruption in sanitary sewer services during the project.
Garland Avenue will be closed between Marks Street and Orange Avenue for the entire duration of the project. Gateway Center business access will be maintained.
Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. We expect the direct impact on nearby businesses to be minimal. Nearby businesses may experience increased noise during project hours. Adverse weather and unforeseen circumstances can increase the project's duration. Solid waste, recycling, mail, and other services will continue as scheduled. Should an emergency occur, first responders and emergency vehicles will have priority access.
