Megha Ramprasad

As President of Florida's South Asian Marrow Initiative (SAMI), Megha has led impactful drives in partnership with NMDP/DKMS to increase South Asian representation in bone marrow registries- addressing systemic healthcare disparities head-on. Her leadership has raised awareness about bone marrow donnership, built community connections, and even helped raise over $7,000 nationally. With the help of chapters around the U.S. and through creative collaborations with local organizations, Megha has learned to focus on empowering and uplifting her South Asian community.

As Megha began to see the positive results of her hard work, it helped explain her motivation for participating, and strengthened her leadership to the point of giving her a firm chance to connect individual voices to advocacy. Megha's journey began with a simple question: "Why not me?" inspired by Dr. King's words- "I am coming to feel that the people of ill will have used time much more effectively than the people of good will."  She turned her ideas into action, also proving that service is the pathway to greatness. With 180+ hours of community service, she built character, discovered her interest in diplomacy, and discovered a passion for learning more about public policy and international relations.

No doubt Megha has excelled in giving back to her community. She has earned several Excellent in Service Awards and has overwhelmingly demonstrated her caring nature, especially for those who appear to be disadvantaged. This National Honor Society member should have no problem excelling in her chosen career as a Diplomat or International Financial Analyst, because right now Megha is modeling many exemplary humanitarian behaviors, so desperately needed to help build Dr. King’s dream.
