Get a Permit for Hurricane-Related Repairs

Step 1.Gather your materials

Homeowners must submit the following items for hurricane-related permits:

• Valid form of identification or a recorded warranty deed to determine ownership
• Completed permit application (building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, roof) based on scope of work
• Completed Owner Builder Disclosure Statement (must be filled out in person at City Hall)
• Signed and sealed construction plans (if required) for scope of work

Step 2.Submit a Recorded Notice of Commencement

If your project value exceeds $2,500 you will need to file a Notice of Commencement with the Orange County Comptroller's Office prior to starting any work. Once the Notice of Commencement is filed, you need to post a certified copy at the job site and provide a copy to the City of Orlando.

Step 3.Apply for your permit

Step 4.Submit plans

The City of Orlando allows you to submit your plans digitally so you can have them reviewed online. You will receive an email from eplans@cityoforlando.net after we process your application. It will give you a link to ProjectDox and a temporary password.

Step 5.Check plan status

We expect to review initial commercial project submissions within 20 business days and 10 business days for residential projects. If you need corrections, you will receive an email. We expect to review revisions within 15 business days for commercial projects and 5 business days for residential.

Step 6.Make a payment

We will email you payment instructions once we approve your permit application. You can view any fees that are due and pay them using our Permit Lookup tool.

Step 7.Download permit and plans

After you pay your fees, we will email you to let you know your plans are available for download. Login to ProjectDox and download your plans from the Approved folder.

Step 8.Begin your repairs

Don't forget to post your approved plans at your project site.

Step 9.Schedule an inspection

Different permits need inspections at different points in the project. If your permit is open for six months without an inspection, it will expire.

Step 10.Check your permit status

Once you complete and pass your inspections the permit will be final. If you don’t close out your permit, this could cause issues later when trying to sell your property. Use our Permit Lookup tool to check the status of your permit and ensure that the status is final.
