Freight Loading and Unloading Permit

Is your business loading or unloading freight downtown?

Freight permits are only granted to those businesses with a need to load or unload of freight downtown that have a gross vehicle weight of 5,000 lbs or a vehicle width exceeding 80 inches.

You are required to submit a copy of the vehicle registration and tag number for each vehicle moving freight. If you are applying for a new permit or renewing a permit for multiple vehicles, you can submit a spreadsheet with all vehicle information during the application process.

Freight permits are valid until September 30 of each year and are prorated based on the following schedule:

Keep in mind:

  • You can't exceed 30 minutes in a freight zone and you can't return within 30 minutes of leaving.
  • Your permit must be visible and attached to the rear of the vehicle and you must be actively loading and unloading.
  • Freight zones are clearly marked with a sign and the curb is painted orange.
