Ishan Patel - University High School

Ishan Patel uses compassion and leadership to create spaces that uplift and empower underrepresented voices in his community. As President of the Asian Student Association and Treasurer of the Spanish Honor Society, he leads teams to celebrate diversity, organizing cultural events and field trips.

Beyond school, Ishan works tirelessly to help others reach their full potential, mentoring his Science Olympiad team and securing sponsorships to support their success. Ishan’s humanitarian spirit also shines through his dedication to service, organizing projects to aid the visually impaired and homeless. 

Ishan’s dedication also extends to his passion for computer science where he recognized an educational gap at UHS and co-founded the Computer Club. There, students are mentored in programming, and they organize competitions to empower underserved students in technology. His empathy is equally personal for he can easily be found building free and low-cost websites and apps to empower individuals and businesses in local and international communities.

Through his actions, Ishan embodies Dr. King’s legacy, whether leading peers, coding solutions for others, or serving his community. He consistently strives to uplift those around him and remind others to believe in themselves and each other, and in his own words that: “There is no me or I, but we.”  Ishan is generally a student who strives to encompass the main ideals of Dr. MLK along with the general traits proudly exhibited in chosen Orlando MLK Humanitarian students.
