Untitled By Sophie Katz
Is the sky the limit, or a unifier?
That bright blue dream, made touchable
By bike-seller brothers in the North Carolinian hills
It's thanks to them that now a toddler kicks the back of my seat
In time to his rendition of the ABCs
While the woman next to me watches Star Wars with Spanish subtitles
And I eat the Chinese fried rice I purchased in the terminal
Listening to the row in front of me - a pair of strangers, from opposite coasts -
Realize they have a friend in common.
"Jewish Geography strikes again," they laugh.
All of this - impossible, a century ago,
When the sky was a limit, and other lives were days and days away And you lived and learned and died in a single tiny circle on the ground.
How human we are, in this place no human could reach alone.
How wonderful we are, reaching new heights, together.
