1. Rules

The following are prohibited:

  • Pets
  • Littering
  • Swimming
  • Hunting

  • Alcoholic drinks
  • Motorized vehicles
  • Taking of plants or animals
  • Launching or landing of drones

2. What to wear, what to bring and what NOT to bring

  • Wear sun protection
  • Bring plenty of water to drink
  • Leave pets at home! They are not permitted at the Orlando Wetlands.
  • You may bring food and snacks (no alcohol) but please pack out all trash. Trash cans are located at the Visitors Center, and facility entrance by the restrooms, picnic pavilion and parking lot.

3. Weather, Environment, Wildlife

  • The weather is usually hot and humid. This creates extreme to dangerous heat indices, especially during summer months. Plan to visit during cooler times of the day. The winter season is typically cooler.
  • The potential for sun and UV exposure is high all year long. There is minimal to no shade in the open wetland marsh. Covered shelters and benches are in a few select locations.
  • Lightning and rainstorms can arrive quickly with little notice, especially during summer months. Know the weather forecast before heading out and seek shelter before storms arrive.
  • Berm road trails are made of compacted sand and shell that's firm when dry but can become soft after heavy rains.
  • Wooded perimeter trails are shaded but can be wet due to seasonal rains and mosquitoes are often present.
  • The Wetlands are home to many wild animals including alligators, fire ants, wasps, snakes and more. They will become defensive if they feel threatened.
  • Stay on top of berm roads and away from the water's edge where wildlife tends to be. Keep small children close. Pets are not allowed due to the presence of alligators and birds of prey. Do not approach, touch, or handle wildlife in any way.

4. Parking and Admission

  • Parking and admission to the Orlando Wetlands and Visitors Center is free.
  • Public Tram Tours accept donations and Reserved Group Tour rates are variable. Visit our Take a Tour page for details.

5. Amenities and Things to Do

  • Restrooms are located just north of the parking lot and at the Visitors Center.
  • Picnic pavilions with grills and trash cans are located just north of the parking lot. To ask about renting a pavilion, please email orlandowetlands@orlando.gov.
  • Activities to enjoy at the Wetlands include hiking, biking, horseback riding, nature viewing, photography and educational displays. Refer to our map and brochures for suggested trail routes and scenic points. View our Interactive GPS Map.
  • Walk the Cypress Boardwalk to get an overwater view of the Wetlands and a close-up look at our Cypress Dome.
  • Stop by the Visitors Center to get information, explore interactive exhibits and see live animal displays. Visit the gift shop for a drink or souvenir. All proceeds go to the Friends of the Orlando Wetlands, a project committee of Strengthen Orlando 501(c)(3). Open Tuesday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed on city observed holidays.

6. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I enter the Orlando Wetlands before sunrise or after sunset? 
No. The entrance gate opens and closes automatically. Violators may be trespassed.

Why can’t I bring my pet?
As a safety precaution, due to the numerous alligators and birds of prey here, pets should be left at home. Service Animals as defined by Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act are permitted.

Can I drive my car through the Orlando Wetlands?
No. Motorized vehicles are prohibited except for staff vehicles.

Is the Orlando Wetlands accessible to persons with physical disabilities? 
Yes. A sidewalk leads from the parking lot to the restrooms, picnic pavilion and Visitors Center. The berm road trails throughout the facility are made of compacted sand and shell that is wheelchair accessible in dry weather conditions.

Can I bring my electric bike/scooter/Segway/hoverboard, etc.? 
No. The only exception are devices used for mobility assistance such as pedal assist e-bikes and electric wheelchairs.
