WHAT:
The City of Orlando’s Historic Preservation Board is excited to announce the theme for the 2026 Historic Preservation Board Calendar and photography competition. This year, the board is seeking photographs that capture the vibrant "Painted Ladies" of Orlando’s Historic Neighborhoods.
Since 1991, the City of Orlando has produced the beloved Historic Preservation Board Calendar, showcasing the city’s treasured historic resources. For the 2026 edition, photographers are invited to submit photos of any structure over 50 years old (generally pre-1970) located in Orlando’s historic neighborhoods, not just those within historic preservation districts. This year’s theme focuses on the colorful artistry of historic homes, specifically those painted with three or more colors to highlight their architectural details.
While San Francisco is known for its iconic Victorian "Painted Ladies," Orlando is home to many beautifully painted historic houses that showcase unique styles, color schemes and charm. With the generous sponsorship of McCoy Federal Credit Union, the calendar will feature color photographs for the first time since 2006, celebrating the rich diversity of artistry displayed on these historic properties.
CALENDAR CONTEST SPECIFICS:
Photographs may be of individual architectural details or entire structures. Structures should be at least 50 years old (pre-1970) and located in neighborhoods like Orwin Manor, Rose Isle, Lake Formosa, Rowena Gardens, Lancaster Park, College Park, Park Lake Highland, Audubon Park, Colonialtown North and others, including the city’s local and National Register Districts.
A $100 honorarium will be awarded to each photographer whose picture is selected for the 2026 Historic Preservation Board Calendar.
WHEN:
- Submission deadline: Monday, July 7, 2025, by 5:00 p.m.
HOW TO SUBMIT:
- Photographers may submit up to three photographs.
- Photos must be in color and either vertical or horizontal format.
- Digital submissions can be emailed to Jennifer.Fritz-Hunter@orlando.govwith photographer’s name, daytime phone number, and the address for each subject site.
- Printed submissions must be on 8” x 10” or 8 ½” x 11” photo paper with a white border, labeled on the back with the photographer’s name, daytime phone number, email address and the address of the subject site.

Submitted photographs become the property of the City of Orlando Historic Preservation Board for use in the annual calendar competition and associated promotions. Winning photos will be selected by members of the Historic Preservation Board through blind judging.
