The City of Orlando Hosts Virtual Commercial and Multifamily Recycling Workshop
WHAT:
On Saturday, January 16 at 11 a.m., City of Orlando staff will be hosting the a virtual Commercial and Multifamily Recycling workshop for property managers to learn about the Commercial and Multifamily Recycling Ordinance and the next steps they can take to ensure compliance.
Approved by City Council back in March 2019, this ordinance requires that properties provide the opportunity for tenants to recycle at all commercial and multifamily properties; furthering the city’s goal of zero waste to the landfill by 2040.
As part of the ordinance implementation, the next phase consists of multifamily communities with 75-249 units and commercial properties with 100,000 – 199,999 square feet, coming into compliance by April 1, 2021.
In addition to the virtual workshops, Solid Waste staff are available to meet with property managers on-site to guide them through the process of setting up a recycling program. To date, Solid Waste employees have conducted more than 560 on-site visits, and helped more than 200 properties comply with the ordinance.
By increasing access to recycling for residents, it further reduces the amount of waste that would be sent to landfills and, in the long-term, helps preserve and protect the city for generations to come.
