June Sounds Like This By: Felix Roman
Peacocks herald the morning with their song –
they’ve been waiting all night long.
At sunrise, it begins again:
a yawning world beneath the zen.
Oh, it’s a symphony!
Bicycle chimes in the distance,
and tires over brick roads;
croaking in unison
are a few toads.
The smell of jasmine tickles the nose –
dancing off rooftops,
that’s where petrichor flows.
High above the sands and lakes,
Sugarloaf rises - no mistakes.
An ice cream truck plays its tune –
Summer’s here - it must be June.
In all its wonder and delight,
she dances with the humid night.
This is Florida - soft, essential,
with a heart that’s strong and central.
A twinkle.
A treasure.
A dash of sunshine
for good measure.
This is our home.
It is our pleasure.
From sunbeams and pastel dreams,
the evening ends in silent streams.
