The City of Orlando proposes to apply for the Community Development Block Grant-Mitigation General Infrastructure Program funding administered by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for the following projects:
Resilience Hubs: The City of Orlando is seeking approximately $5.5M to convert 13 community centers into Resilience Hubs. Funds will be used to upgrade electrical infrastructure; install solar panels where feasible; upgrade ventilation/filtration; and upgrade facilities as needed to function as a Resilience Hub. Resilience Hubs function as critical community-facing facilities during the recovery phase of a disaster, providing a source of power, communications, cooling and supplies for neighborhood residents.
Mini Resilience Hubs: The City of Orlando is seeking $560,000 to install 14 wifi-enabled solar tables in city parks located in neighborhoods with below average internet access. These shaded tables are built to withstand hurricane-force winds and can continue to provide a power source for charging devices when neighborhoods experience an outage. Area residents can benefit from wifi-access year-round.
Lift Stations: The City of Orlando seeks approximately $2.6M to provide backup emergency generators for 8 lift stations located in the Wekiva Overlay area. The goal of the project is to reduce the risk of lift station failure in the event of a power outage that may impact water quality in the Wekiva River Basin.
