City of Orlando and OUC Announce Summerlin Avenue Improvement Project to Begin January 2025 Temporary infrastructure project will impact neighborhood roadways to improve critical sanitary, stormwater and fire safety systems
Orlando, FL – December 20, 2024 – The City of Orlando, in partnership with OUC—The Reliable One is launching the Summerlin Avenue Improvement Project to upgrade critical infrastructure between South Street and Marks Street with construction breaking ground in January 2025. This project will modernize OUC's potable water system and the City of Orlando's sanitary sewer and stormwater systems to enhance service reliability, streamline safety systems and improve quality of life for residents through infrastructure upgrades. Beginning Monday, January 13, 2025, contractor Gibbs and Register will begin construction to replace nearly 80-year-old aging infrastructure. The project includes the installation of approximately 1.25 miles of new water mains, the addition of fire hydrants and the update of critical valves to improve fire safety and system dependability. Beyond utility upgrades, the project also includes a complete restoration of the roadways, enhanced pedestrian safety and improved streetscapes. Roadway reconstruction includes the reinstatement of brick pavers or asphalt paving. Pedestrian safety enhancements will incorporate the addition of new pedestrian signals at strategic intersections along with crosswalk and curb ramp replacements to ensure ADA compliance. Furthermore, the project encompasses sod replacement and tree removal, ensuring a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing streetscape. Key Details of the Summerlin Avenue Improvement Project:
