Livingston Street Separated Bicycle Lane Quick-Build Project

The City of Orlando is implementing a quick-build separated bicycle lane and intersection improvements on Livingston Street from Fern Creek Avenue to Maguire Boulevard to enhance bicyclist safety.

Quick Builds use flexible, temporary materials to create safer spaces in shorter time frames compared to a capital improvement project.

This project runs along Livingston Street from Fern Creek Avenue to Maguire Boulevard, as shown in the map below.

This project includes:

  • Vertical bike lane protections using low-profile traffic separators to separate bicyclists and vehicles.
  • Intersection improvements including:
  • Bulb-outs which extend the curb with posts and paint to shorten crossings and slow vehicle turns.
  • Bike boxes which mark space at intersections to give bikes a head start in front of cars at red lights.
  • Bicycle crossings to slow traffic and improve bicycle safety.

The objective of these improvements is to increase bicyclist safety along Livingston Street and at the intersections of Livingston Street and Fern Creek Boulevard, Livingston Street and Bumby Avenue, and Livingston Street and Maguire Boulevard.

This project was identified as demonstration project in the 2020 Bike Plan Update as they would ideally improve the connectivity of the Orlando bike network and support increased bike safety. Evaluation goals for this project may include the following:

  • Pedestrian and bicyclist connectivity and comfort
  • Travel options
  • Speed management
  • Safety
  • Public use
  • Business exposure
