Grand National Drive Phase 2 Improvements

The City of Orlando Transportation Department is designing improvements along Grand National Drive, between Carrier Drive and Vanguard Street, to improve safety, increase roadway capacity, and enhance walking and biking connections in the International Drive area.

These improvements also support the city’s Vision Zero initiative, aimed at eliminating traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries, while also improving connectivity to the Ultimate I-4 interchange and surrounding roadway network.

Planned improvements include:

  • Four travel lanes
  • Multi-use trail
  • Sidewalk and pedestrian improvements
  • Drainage upgrades
  • Enhanced street lighting
  • Access management improvements
  • Increased roadway safety

Phase 2 builds on the success of the Grand National Drive Phase I Improvements, which were completed in May 2025. Phase I widened Grand National Drive from Oak Ridge Road to Vanguard Street and introduced wider multi-use sidewalks, improved drainage, landscaping, and traffic flow enhancements.

The project improved safety and mobility for motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists while supporting the city's Vision Zero initiative and the continued revitalization of the International Drive corridor. Phase 2 will extend these improvements south from Carrier Drive to Vanguard Street, creating a more connected and accessible transportation network.
