Gustavo DaSilva - West Orange High School

Gustavo embodies the spirit and principles of Dr. King through his deep sense of compassion, fairness, and commitment to serving others. Thoughtful and insightful, Gustavo leads by quiet example motivating his peers not through words alone, but also consistent acts of integrity and kindness. He believes in the value of every individual and works to uplift those around him so that the entire community can succeed together.

He also has a strong relationship in his religious faith, which may one day lead him to seek ministerial and/or engineering pursuits. Gustavo feels that if people did less judging of others, especially ones they don’t really know, the world would be a better place. Gustavo’s empathy allows him to see the best in others, and his maturity enables him to approach complex issues with balance and understanding. He is smart, steadfast in his convictions, yet always open to meaningful dialogue and multiple perspectives which are essential qualities of a humanitarian.

Through his constant faith, service, and leadership, Gustavo lives and promotes the ideals of equality, respect, and love for humankind. He also tries to exhibit traits and live his life in the same manner that Dr. King did, and advanced throughout his teachings and ministry.

He is an exceptional young man and a most deserving nominee for this honor. Gustavo is, without hesitation, an ideal humanitarian and already an asset to our society.
