City Hall and non-essential city services are closed Monday, January 19, 2026, in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. Residential trash pick up on Monday will occur as usual.
Dayan Hodgson, a student at Sheeler High School in Apopka, Florida, is an exceptional young leader and scholar. Maintaining an impressive 3.70 GPA, she aspires to become a medical doctor with a specialization in genetics which is an ambition that reflects both her intellectual curiosity and her desire to make a meaningful impact on the world.
Dayan exemplifies volunteerism at its finest. She has dedicated several years of service to the Hope Community Center, as well as to her local Catholic Church and youth groups. Her commitment to civic engagement is further demonstrated through her participation in the Florida Impact Youth Advocacy Group, Hope Community Leadership Training, the Orange County Mayor's Academy, and the Emotional Intelligence Methodology Academy.
Her leadership and service have earned her notable recognition, including the Hispanic Youth Leadership Award and the 2024 Academic Excellence Award presented at an Orange County Board meeting for her advocacy on behalf of minority communities.
Dayan has truly begun her journey in community advocacy with passion, integrity, and purpose. Her dedication and humanitarian efforts mirror the values championed by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., particularly the belief that service to others is at the heart of creating positive and lasting change.
