New School Zone Speed Camera Program Launches
Last updated on October 05, 2026
ORLANDO, FL - October 5, 2026 — The City of Orlando, in partnership with Verra Mobility, is expanding efforts to protect children by installing School Zone Speed Cameras, at 20 school locations as part of the City's Vision Zero initiative to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries.
Beginning today, Monday, October 5, 2026, the City of Orlando will activate School Zone Speed Cameras at select school locations for a 45-day warning period. During this time, motorists traveling more than 10 mph over the speed limit in effect will receive a warning instead of a citation. Beginning on November 30, 2026, the warning period will end and violations will be issued.
The cameras are designed to encourage safer driving in school zones, helping create a safer environment for students, parents, crossing guards and school staff. According to the Transportation Research Board, approximately 25,000 children are injured and more than 100 are killed each year nationwide while walking to or from school because of speeding drivers. School Zone Speed Cameras are active only during school days and do not issue violations on weekends, school holidays or other days when students are not in session.
Revenue generated through the program supports public safety initiatives, including the City's Vision Zero efforts, with additional funding distributed as required by state law to school safety and crossing guard programs.
