Mayor William Beardall Senior Center Newsletter

The Beardall Senior Center is a historic building from the 1920s located at the corner of Gore Street and Delaney Avenue near Downtown Orlando. The center is located in restored Delaney Elementary School.

More than 100 clubs, classes and events take place each month for seniors at the center. 

African Violet Society Show and Sale
Friday, March 6 | 12 - 4 p.m.
Saturday, March 7 | 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The African Violets Society is dedicated to providing a convenient association for people interested in African violets and stimulate interest in propagation and culture of African violets. The CFAVS has been around for over 70 years and has brought their vibrant and beautiful show to Beardall for several years. African violets will be available for purchase.

AARP Income Tax Services
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays | 12 - 4 p.m.

Beginning on February 5 through April 15 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, AARP will provide free tax preparation. Services are first come first serve. 

Creative Writers Group
Fridays | 10 a.m.

Calling all writers! Are you inspired to be a writer? Have you written a short story or novel and would like to share it with others and learn how to write better? Then, we have the perfect place for your talent. Join the Creative Writers Group every Friday.

Beardall Silver Eagles Golf Program
Mondays | 8:30 a.m.
Admission: Complimentary

Golfers will be transported from Beardall to the golf practice facility at Callahan Neighborhood Center and should bring between 3-5 clubs (driver, an iron, a chipping wedge, and a putter). Loaner equipment will be available. Please sign-up in advance at the front desk, as transportation may be limited. 

Florida Strawberry Festival
Friday, March 6 | 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Cost:  $22

Experience the many exhibits at the annual Strawberry Festival. Agriculture, livestock, fine arts, crafts and contests come together to celebrate the delicious strawberries from local Plant City farmers. The $22 cost includes round trip transportation to Plant City and festival entrance ticket. Lunch is on your own.

Cyber Seniors Program
1st Mondays | 3 p.m.

Do you need help with technology? Would you like to learn more about how to use your computer or cell phone? Dedicated staff will help you with these devices. Arrive early as space is limited.

Blood Pressure Checks
1st Tuesdays | 9 - 10 a.m.
Admission: Complimentary 

Helping you prevent heart disease, stroke and diabetes, Advance Preventative Medicine will provide free blood pressure and blood glucose checks.

Cooking Matters In Your Community
Wednesday, March 11 | 2 p.m.

Learn how to make healthier choices when shopping and eating. A different food item will be highlighted each week with a cooking demonstration and free samples to try. Please sign up at the front desk if you plan to attend. Sponsored and taught by the University of Florida.


Ukulele Lessons
Thursdays | 1 - 2 p.m.

Learn strumming patterns, basic open chords, chord charts, and basic fundamentals of music. More importantly, learn to play songs quickly in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Provided by Central Florida Community Arts.
