District 2 Government Academy

Commissioner Tony Ortiz' Government Academy was launched in 2014 to empower the constituents of District 2 and beyond. His biggest goal as a public servant is to share knowledge with his community to better their own lives because he believes that government starts with the people.

Classes are held twice a year in both English and Spanish at the Orlando Police Training Facility (100 George Desalvia Way, Orlando, FL 32807) on Tuesdays from 6:30  – 8:30 p.m. for 11 weeks. In order to receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course on the day of graduation, only two absences are permitted.

Topics learned and discussed are taught by their respective field experts and include an array of subjects such as: Federal, state, county, and municipal government. Additionally, the education of city and county services takes place giving constituents the chance to learn about the Judicial System, Orange County Property Appraiser/Tax Collector, Public Schools, City of Orlando Housing, Economic Development, Sustainability and more.

Spring Session (English): March 31 – June 9, 2020
