District 2 Government Academy

Commissioner Tony Ortiz established the District 2 Government Academy in 2014 to empower his constituents. The Commissioner’s biggest goal as a public servant is to educate and share knowledge with his community to better their own lives because he believes that government starts with them.

Topics discussed are taught by their respective field experts and include an array of subjects such as: Federal, state, county, and municipal government. The education of city and county services takes place giving constituents the chance to learn about the Judicial System, Orange County Property Appraiser/Tax Collector, Public Schools, City of Orlando Housing, Economic Development, Sustainability and more.

Classes are held twice a year in both Spanish and English at the Orlando Police Training Facility (100 Andes Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801) on Tuesdays from 6 – 8 p.m. for 9 weeks. In order to receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course on the day of graduation, only two absences are permitted.

Spring Session (English): April 2 – May 28, 2019

Fall Session (Spanish): TBD
