The City of Orlando intends to apply for the FY 2026 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program – Local Solicitation. During a recent assessment of operational and equipment supply needs, OPD identified the need for the following equipment and supplies in the amount of $209,915.00: All Patrol and other units require protective cases to properly store Narcan (Naloxone), used to restore breathing and administer lifesaving treatment to those suffering the adverse effects of opioid overdose. These cases will ensure the drug’s efficacy and ready use when stored at extreme heat or cold. Additionally, the recently added Ranch/Grove Unit requires thermal imaging monoculars to conduct investigations and surveillance in more rural parts of our city, in areas with low or no lighting, and across vast expanses with dense vegetation. Our recently established Police Academy has identified the need for gym equipment to train recruits in defensive tactics. Academy training will be further bolstered by a gunshot simulation trainer.  Medical, CPR, and evaluation mannequins, along with first-aid supplies to teach recruits triage and the application of field dressings, will also be purchased.

The City of Orlando is accepting public comments relating to the grant application. Public comments can be accepted by email at frank.colaianni@orlando.gov, or by phone/voice mail at 407.246.2480 or by following the instructions to submit a public comment at the October 12, 2026 City Council meeting. Public comments regarding this grant application must be received by October 12, 2026, at 5:00 PM.

The City of Orlando has been awarded $58,032,405 through the American Rescue Plan Act’s Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund.
