The course aims to foster relationships between the police department and parents. The purpose of the academy is to:

Partner with parents through providing education about youth and issues regarding the effects of trauma and violence, mental health struggles and peer dependence, the impact of gangs and youth involvement, adolescent development, and tackling the role of social media amongst youth.

Provide parents an opportunity to ask questions and have a discussion with a licensed mental health counselor.

Raise awareness regarding the critical role effective parenting plays in youth development.

Provide parents with resources through partnerships with other local agencies that provide support and counseling for youth.

Assist parents with strategies to promote positive interactions with youth.
The seminar is a 2-hour virtual session and will be held on Wednesday, January 26 from 6 - 8 p.m.
