2023 Historic Preservation Calendar Theme

The 2023 Historic Preservation Board calendar and photography competition will focus on Orlando’s Park Lake/Highland neighborhood.

The Park Lake/Highland area comprises more than one historical subdivision with the majority of plats filed in the 1910s by County Surveyor and City Engineer Samuel Robinson. Original homeowners included Orlando’s early businessmen who engaged prominent local architects to design their dwellings.  A variety of styles reflecting architectural trends from the early- to mid-twentieth century are represented in the district including Bungalow, Colonial Revival, Contemporary, Craftsman, Dutch Colonial Revival, French Eclectic, Italian Renaissance Revival, Mediterranean Revival, Minimal Traditional, Mission, Monterey, Neoclassical Revival, Prairie, Ranch, and Tudor Revival.

The Park Lake/Highland Neighborhood is bordered by Virginia Drive to the north, Mills Avenue to the east, Colonial Drive to the south and Highland Avenue to the west.  Please see the map for exact boundaries.

Submission subjects can be of individual details or an entire structure.  Exterior or interior images of the subject will be accepted.

To be eligible for the calendar, subject matter should be from structures that are at least 50 years old (generally, pre-1970) and be located within the Park Lake/Highland neighborhood.
