The City of Orlando Celebrates Upcoming Juneteenth Holiday and Hosts Civil Rights Panel for Community and Civil Rights Leaders
WHAT: On Friday, June 11, 2021, in celebration of the upcoming Juneteenth holiday the City of Orlando’s Office of Human Relations will bring together civil rights activists and community leaders for a multi-part panel discussion that will look back at the history of the civil rights movement, explore the impacts of present day legislation, including the anti-riot bill recently signed into law, and look to the future of the civil rights movement.
Civil right activists and freedom riders Hezekiah Watkins, Willie Pearl Mackay King, and Joan Mulholland will begin the program by discussing the peaceful protests and sit-ins they participated in with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The panel will then be followed by a lunch keynote with NAACP, National Chairman, Leon Russell and a closing panel featuring the following speakers:
