Request Down Payment Assistance

Do you need assistance to purchase a home?

Federally funded grants are available to low-income households though city-certified lenders for homes purchased within city limits.


Step 1.Check the requirements for this program

The home you want to buy must:

  • Be within City of Orlando limits.
  • Be a new or existing single-family home, condominium or townhouse.
  • Not currently be tenant-occupied.
  • Meet standards for health and safety; the city will perform an inspection before you close on the home.

Step 2.Check your income eligibility 

No minimum credit score is required.

To qualify for the program, you must:

  • Have not owned a home in the past 3 years. (See exceptions.)
  • Meet an income level based on the number of people in your household.

Step 3.Complete a homebuyer educational seminar

Contact a HUD-certified housing counseling agency and enroll in the seminar. A seminar is usually eight hours long, held over one or more sessions over a single weekend. Costs vary depending on the counseling agency.

At the end of the seminar, you will receive a certificate of completion. This certificate is good for one year.

Step 4.Contact a city-certified lender

As part of this program, you must use a city-certified lender to apply for your mortgage loan.

If you have a mortgage lender but they are not certified by the City of Orlando, they will need to follow the process and application below.

Step 5.Verify the home you are interested in is in city limits

You can use our locator tool to see if the home you’d like to buy is within Orlando City limits:

  1. Type an address in the top search bar
  2. Check the "Jurisdiction" box at the bottom of the screen.
  3. If the jurisdiction says "Orlando," the address is within city limits. The background color of the map will also be white.

Step 6.Once lender is certified, they will need to submit the Down Payment Assistance application below

Step 7.We will review your application

If approved, we will schedule an appointment to finish your paperwork.

Step 8.We will inspect the house to ensure it meets safety standards

Step 9.Close on your home

If you are approved, this process may take up to 30 days before a closing date can be scheduled. We will provide the title company with funds prior to closing.
