Request Down Payment Assistance

Do you need assistance to purchase a home?

Federally funded grants are available to low-income households though city-certified lenders for homes purchased within city limits.

Step 1.Check the requirements for this program

The home you want to buy must:

  • Be within City of Orlando limits.
  • Be a new or existing single-family home, condominium or townhouse.
  • Not currently be tenant-occupied.
  • Meet standards for health and safety; the city will perform an inspection before you close on the home.

Step 2.Check your income eligibility

No minimum credit score is required.

To qualify for the program, you must:

  • Have not owned a home in the past 3 years. (See exceptions.)
  • Meet an income level based on the number of people in your household.

Please note our income calculator is only an estimate and does not guarantee approval.

Step 3.Complete a homebuyer educational seminar

Contact a HUD-certified housing counseling agency and enroll in the seminar. A seminar is usually eight hours long, held over one or more sessions over a single weekend. Costs vary depending on the counseling agency.

At the end of the seminar, you will receive a certificate of completion. This certificate is good for one year.

Step 4.Contact a city-certified lender

As part of this program, you must use a city-certified lender to apply for your mortgage loan.

Step 5.Find a home to buy

Consult with a real estate agent or view property listings to find a house.

You can use our locator tool to see if the home you’d like to buy is within Orlando City limits:

  1. Type an address in the top search bar
  2. Check the "Jurisdiction" box at the bottom of the screen.
  3. If the jurisdiction says "Orlando," the address is within city limits. The background color of the map will also be white.

Step 6.Complete the down payment assistance application with your lender

Your city-certified lender will send us your down payment assistance application. The city will review your application and if approved, we will schedule an appointment with you to finish your paperwork. The city will also inspect the house to ensure it meets safety standards.

Applications are currently closed.

Step 7.Close on your home

If you are approved, we will provide the title company with funds prior to closing.
