The project will lessen incidents of flooding and assist in the improvement of stormwater quality in the immediate and surrounding neighborhoods.

The City's Public Works Department contracted J. Malever Construction Company to make stormwater drainage improvements on Oregon Street. The project area is between Fern Creek Avenue to Hampton Avenue.

During the project, the contractor will install a new 66-inch stormwater pipe and connect it to an existing 108-inch stormwater pipe located within the intersection of Hampton Avenue that outfalls to Lake Rowena. Additional improvements will be made to previously identified sidewalk panels, curbing and sanitary sewer laterals. Completion of the project will lessen incidents of flooding and assist in the improvement of stormwater quality in the immediate and surrounding neighborhoods.

We expect to complete the project in twelve months.

The City's contractor J. Malever continues to make progress on the Oregon Street Drainage Improvement Project. On Monday, April 20, 2020, the project area will shift slightly west on Oregon Street.

Once the project area shifts, Hampton Avenue will be available for northbound and southbound traffic. Although Hampton Avenue will reopen, Oregon Street will remain temporarily unavailable at the Hampton Avenue and Oregon Street intersection.

Additionally, on Monday, April 20, 2020, the Hardy Avenue and Oregon Street intersection will be unavailable. Temporary traffic control signals will be installed on both Morris Avenue and Hardy Avenue to assist constituents with entering and exiting the area. There will be temporary no parking on both Morris Avenue and Hardy Avenue during project hours. Public Works is working in conjunction with the City's Solid Waste, Transportation and Code Enforcement Divisions to ensure a smooth transition.

Please know, adverse weather can potentially delay the reopening of Hampton Avenue and the shifting of the project location. We will keep you informed should anything change.

On-street parking will be temporarily unavailable for the duration of the project on Morris Avenue, Hardy Avenue and Montana Street. The contractor will install temporary traffic control devices on Hardy and Morris Avenue to assist with traffic control.

Additionally, as the project progresses east on Oregon Street toward Fern Creek Avenue, the intersection at Hardy Avenue and Oregon Street will be temporarily out of service. Much later in the project, both intersections of Morris Avenue and Oregon Street will be temporarily out service.

Hardy Avenue and Morris Avenue will not be out service simultaneously

Once the project reaches the intersections of Morris Avenue and Oregon Street, traffic patterns for Orlando Gifted Academy will change. Morris Avenue, Montana Street, and Hardy Avenue will convert to two way traffic.

The installation of traffic control devices will assist commuters with navigating the area.

Public Works and J. Malever are working in conjunction with Orange County Public Schools, School Resource Officers and the City's Transportation Department to make certain there is a smooth transition.

Parents and commuters should prepare for potential delays that may increase commute times.

The project will begin at the intersection of Hampton Avenue and Oregon Street, traveling west towards Fern Creek Avenue. There will be traffic pattern changes to Orlando Gifted Academy's student pick-up and drop-off throughout the project. There will be times when a driveway or intersection is temporarily unavailable. However, homeowners will have access to their driveway throughout the project’s duration.

Solid waste, recycling, mail, and other services will continue as scheduled. Should an emergency occur, first responders and emergency vehicles will have priority access.  Project hours are 7 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Unforeseen circumstances and adverse weather can create delays that increase the project's duration. Unforeseen circumstances can create opportunities for weekend and overnight work.
