Replacement of sections of the sanitary sewer pipeline will help provide the immediate area with improved efficiency and reliability.

In January, the City's Public Works Department will oversee a sanitary sewer replacement project in the Lake Richmond neighborhood. The project area is along portions of Vargas Street, Ravenall Avenue, and Moria Street. We expect to complete the project in eight months.

The existing ductile iron pipe is showing signs of aging, and in the past, has experienced cracks and leaks. Replacing the sanitary sewer system will help reduce the likelihood of potential future problems. Upon completion of the project, reconstruction of the roadway along Vargas Street, Ravenall Avenue, and Moria Street will be necessary.

During the project, residents along Vargas Street, Ravenall Avenue, and Moria Street will experience detours and road closures for through traffic. Homeowners will have access to their driveway throughout the project's duration. However, there may be times when a driveway or entrance is temporarily impacted as the project progresses. Sanitary sewer bypass pumps will be employed throughout the duration of the project, so sewer service will be uninterrupted.

Should an emergency occur, emergency vehicles and first responders will have priority access. Solid waste, recycling, mail, and other services will continue as scheduled.

Project hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is the potential for an increase in noise during project hours. Unforeseen circumstances and adverse weather can create delays and increase a project's duration. Unforeseen circumstances can make overnight work and weekend work necessary during the project.
