Hazeltine National Drive Rehabilitation Project

On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, the City's Public Works Department will oversee a roadway rehabilitation project on Hazeltine National Drive, between Semoran Boulevard and TPC Drive. We expect to complete this project in three weeks. Please be advised, adverse weather and unforeseen circumstances can create delays or prolong this project.

Once the project starts, the City’s contractor Cutler Repaving Inc. will perform several base repairs on Hazeltine National Drive, mill the entire road, and finally resurface the roadway using a hot-in-place-recycling process - H.I.R. Using an H.I.R. process uses less energy and emits fewer greenhouse gasses than other repaving methods. Using this method can potentially help the City of Orlando meet its sustainability goals.

Over time, the City's roadway surface deteriorates due to traffic volume, the weight of vehicles, and weather. The City uses a Pavement Condition Index, PCI, based on a scale of 0 to100 to determine which streets are in need of attention.  A score of less than 60 indicates a rehabilitation project is necessary. After a careful evaluation, the City's Public Works Department have chosen this method to address the road surface conditions.

Project hours are 7 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. There may be opportunities for weekend and overnight work, should the contractor experience unforeseen circumstances.

We anticipate the direct impact on neighborhood residents and businesses will be minimal. However, there will be potential for increase commute times or even delays for commuters who travel through the project area. Constituents traveling through the area will experience temporary traffic controls, detours, and signal flagmen. Those living within the project area may experience a slight increase in noise during project hours.

Please be advised, should an emergency occur, first responders and emergency vehicles will have priority access.

The City's contractor will coordinate with the City's Solid Waste Division to maintain solid waste, recycling, and yard waste collection. Should a missed collection occur, please contact us at 407.246.2314, the City’s Solid Waste Division will make another attempt for collection.
