The rehabilitation of brick streets present opportunities to remove damaged brick pavers and help make roadways more navigable.

On Monday, March 16, 2020, Public Works will begin a stormwater and brick street rehabilitation project in the North Quarter. The project will occur on Irma Avenue between East Marks Street and Park Lake Street. We expect to complete this project in three weeks.

During the project, the Streets and Stormwater Division will remove approximately 400 linear feet of stormwater pipe that is no longer in service. Once the pipe is removed, they will use this opportunity to rehabilitate brick pavers on Irma Avenue. Rehabilitation of brick pavers allows the City to restore the underlying foundation and remove brick pavers that are damaged. Damaged brick pavers and a compromised foundation can create trip hazards and decrease ride quality for commuters.

Once the project is underway, businesses and residents will notice a temporary road closure for through-traffic. Commuters traveling on E. Marks Street and Park Lake Street will notice detour signs recommending alternate routes. Constituents on Irma Avenue will have access to their driveway throughout the project. However, there may be times when a driveway is temporarily impacted. Should this occur, we will coordinate with businesses or residents before impacting the driveway.

Solid waste, trash, mail, and other services will continue uninterrupted. Should an emergency occur, first responders and emergency vehicles will have priority access.  Project hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., adverse weather and unforeseen circumstances can create delays and increase the project's duration.
